Our Vision

Unicorn Tapestry, Cluny, Paris
Ealdormere is approaching its 20th anniversary as a Kingdom, and this important milestone has inspired us. As we said in our Letter of Intent, we want to promote pride in our Barony, while also connecting our present—and future—with the traditions of our rich past.

Skraeling Althing has many valued traditions and stories, and our people have played a key role in what Ealdormere has become. But it's important that we continue to tell those stories, and share those traditions, so that they can no only be maintained, but also celebrated and built upon by future generations.

Whether it is recognizing the Line of the Hare, or encouraging the display of individual pride in our Barony through banners and Bunny Tails, we want to join the members of the Barony in showing why Skraeling Althing is the greatest barony in the known world! (Yes, we said it, and we’re happy to defend that position on the field of honour. 😉)

Some of the ideas we have for what we would like to do over the next few years include:
  • Continue good relations with our neighbours (unless of course, we’re at war, in which case we will SMASH them in friendly competition);
  • Explore ways to address the ongoing challenge of award nominations, including ways to adjust court to include other period practices for court business beyond awards;
  • Find ways to boost bardic arts and performance during events;
  • Encourage heraldic displays at events and on garb to show pride in the Barony; and,
  • Look at ways to encourage thematic events and activities for the enjoyment of all those attending.
But most important we want to gather input from the populace on what they would like to see from their Barony. Because the role of Baron and Baroness is more than just giving out awards. They are the representative of the Crown to the Barony, and the representative of the Barony to the Crown. Understanding the needs and desires of both sides of that equation is critical.

In the end, we will strive to be the Barony’s biggest cheerleaders, encouraging people to make the most of our hobby, to learn, and to support each other.
