We began our SCA journey in Skraeling Althing, and have remained members of the Barony since. We both have long histories of serving it and the SCA. We feel that putting our names forward now is the best way that we can continue serving Skraeling Althing and its people.
As a couple, we are active in a spectrum of activities: rapier, armoured combat, thrown weapons, arts & sciences, and service. Between us we have held most of the major offices at either the canton or baronial levels in the last decade (or longer, in Avelyn’s case). As a result, we understand ceremonial aspects of the SCA including that of Baron and Baroness, but also the hard work behind the administrative side of the SCA. We have connections to all parts of the Barony: Avelyn grew up pre-SCA in Tor Brant, and first joined the SCA in Greyfells in 1997. We live within the borders of Caldrithig, and are past members of Harrowgate Heath. We travel extensively throughout the kingdom for events and wear our baronial colours with pride; on and off the lists. In foreign lands we have shown our devotion to Ealdormere by donning the scarlet, the trillium and the hare as we marched to war. Thus, you can be assured of our loyalty to the Lupine Thrones and the Line of the North, and our duty to be ambassadors of both Ealdormere and Skraeling Althing.
We feel in our hearts that Skraeling Althing is a strong and vibrant barony, and trust that you agree. As Baron and Baroness, we wish to continue nourishing its growth and fostering its pride. Our vision is to encourage Skraels to always connect our present—and future—with the traditions of our rich past. This is a vision we hope will be embraced warmly, not only among our newest members, but among our very seasoned ones as well. As our kingdom enters its twentieth year, we feel it is important to continue traditions begun in its earliest days while encouraging progressive ideas as an organization and community.
Should we be successful in our candidacy, we intend to showcase the best of Skraeling Althing’s people and talent to the rest of the kingdom and beyond.
To this end, should we become Baron and Baroness we intend to cultivate projects throughout the barony to boost the display of heraldry; encourage the performing arts; and, create more opportunities to tell our stories. We intend to bring our sense of pageantry and our personalities to this role, in the hope of elevating the game for everyone in the barony.
Yet while visions and dreams are ideal things, it has been very important for us to seriously consider the often demanding nature of these roles. We made this decision with diligence, and it is this same diligence that we wish to bring forward in our leadership; should this be the will of Their Majesties, as guided by the Committee and the people of Skraeling Althing.
